A bit of a pause

I was hoping to get back to writing a few more blogs. Unfortunately, I ran into a few health issues. Related to my prostate cancer, if not directly.

Scarring down below, after radiotherapy a few years ago, meant I went into urinary retention. Which I cannot describe as fun. Attempts to open things up were distinctly unpleasant. So, I ended up in surgical theatre. Where a bit more force could be applied to the problem. And a catheter was stuck in. Hopefully to be removed soon(ish)

I have found myself somewhat battered and bruised and not operating at one hundred per cent. Gently improving. I still feel I have much that I would like to say. And I will get back to saying it. I have been asked about my health by a few people. This is the answer, and the reason for my recent silences. For those, like me, who thought you were indestructible … you’re not.

I empathise as someone who has had similar experiences…a 30 mile ambulance trip with one of those double catheter things…one in one out. I felt every bump in the road. Get well soon. We need your analyses and commentary.

Fair comment. I’ve been too complacent myself. Until my wife had to go into long term care last week.

I hope you still have a few acerbic things to say to us. Look forward to them.

worked in urology when I first qualified, so I can visualised only too clearly how you are. What a sod it all is!

Thanks for the update. A former colleauge tested positive for PC, had treatment and survived. He now does a lot to encourage ment to get ested and receive early treatment. I’m proud of him. A buddy told me his old friend had urinary problems in the early 90s, but was only tested for dia betes. This year he was found to have Stage 4 PC, so is facing the end. You’re doing men a favour by writing about your own experience, highlighting the condition and the need for ests and treatment.

What he/she/they said. All of them. And of course I blame the whole covid-fiasco on your present problems and would like to strangle the idiots who put us all through it.

Take good care and know how much you’re missed and loved.

I am sending my wishful thoughts to the cosmic consciousness for you. Your blogs have been a source of humorous thoughts on a serious subject. If only all doctors questioned the dogma like you. Take care and may your urine flow!

    Dear Dr. Kendrick,
I have been following your articles for several years with great interest. I cannot thank you enough for all the insight they provide into the topics you cover. I would also like to thank you for your book, which—for someone like me, who is not a doctor—has been an unparalleled (or nearly so—I am also thinking of Dr. De Lorgeril’s books on the same subject) source of information for understanding cardiovascular diseases.
I sincerely wish, with all my heart, that you make a swift recovery and return to excellent health following the difficult period you are currently going through.
    Best regards,
    Lucie
